Conflict of Interest Policy

Last updated: January 2025  •  Effective: January 2024

The American Metabolic Research Institute is committed to complete transparency regarding financial relationships, funding sources, and any interests that could be perceived as influencing the objectivity of our published research and educational content.

1. Scope

This policy applies to all individuals who contribute to content published under the AMRI name, including lead researchers, contributing authors, peer reviewers, editorial board members, and external advisors. It governs relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturers, medical device companies, biotechnology firms, and any other commercial entity with a financial interest in the subject matter under review.

2. Disclosure Requirements

All contributors must disclose, prior to publication:

  • Ownership of equity or stock options in companies whose products are reviewed or discussed
  • Consulting fees, speaker honoraria, or advisory board compensation received within the preceding 36 months
  • Research grants or institutional funding received from commercial entities, whether direct or indirect
  • Employment relationships, past or present, with relevant commercial organisations
  • Receipt of travel funding, gifts, or in-kind support from commercial sponsors
  • Intellectual property interests (patents, royalties) related to subject matter under review

Disclosures are submitted via AMRI's standardised declaration form and retained on file for a minimum of five years. They are reviewed by the Editorial Board before content is approved for publication.

3. Funding Policy

AMRI does not accept direct funding from pharmaceutical manufacturers, medical device companies, or other commercial entities whose products are under active review by the Institute. Institutional operating costs are met through academic grants, foundation support, and reader contributions. All funding sources are disclosed in the Institute's annual transparency report.

Where a researcher holds an active industry relationship, they are recused from reviewing content directly related to that relationship. A second, independent reviewer is assigned in all such cases.

4. Editorial Independence

No sponsor, funder, or advertiser has any role in the selection of topics, framing of research questions, interpretation of data, or editorial decisions at AMRI. Content decisions rest solely with the Editorial Board. Sponsors are clearly identified where applicable and are not permitted to review or approve content prior to publication.

5. Published Disclosures

Conflict of interest statements accompany every published article and researcher biography page. Where no conflict exists, this is explicitly stated. AMRI follows the ICMJE (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors) recommendations for conflict of interest disclosure as a baseline standard.

6. Reporting Concerns

Concerns about potential undisclosed conflicts of interest may be reported confidentially to the Editorial Board at [email protected]. All reports are reviewed within 14 business days. Substantiated concerns are addressed through correction, retraction, or contributor removal as appropriate.
